Interested in moving?

Ah. Spring Break. A whole week of not having to get up. A whole week of staying up until 2am and sleeping in until 10 or 11am.

:( Now Spring Break is over and I had to get up at 7am. Boo. I realized over Spring Break that I feel better when I follow my natural daily rhythm (the sleeping from 2am to 10am thing). I drink less coffee. I'm happier. I'm more creative. I have heard from many people who feel this way.

So why the ^&*% does the world start its day so blankety-blank early?!?

In light of my Spring Break epiphany, I plan to found a new town. I will find some land somewhere in FL, or at least on the East Coast (but no further north than North Carolina - I hate snow). This town will be called Strigifor (bonus points if you can figure out the reason for the name), and it will operate on West Coast time. So instead of school starting at 8:30am, it will start at 11:30am and end at 6:30pm. Nothing will have to open before 10am and everything will be open until midnight.

I predict a huge increase in productivity and school achievement. Who's with me?

  1. Oh, man, I'd move there! My whole family of night-owls would.

  2. You have three kids and you still managed to sleep in??? *green with envy* :)

I am loving this new town of yours. I'd totally be there, since my natural daily rhythm is just like yours. I'm most creative at night, but I can't ever write at night because my brain gets too excited and won't shut down. Then, when the living alarm clocks go off (namely, my kids), it goes into massive protest. :)

  3. Yeah, I'm with Tabitha! How do you get your kids to let you sleep? Come 645, mine are climbing all over me!! Can't wait for the days when I have to drag them out of bed. Oh, revenge will be sweet...

  4. Hi Ruth!

Tabitha and Kelly, luckily for me, my kids aren't morning people either. They do get up before me, but will chill and watch tv until around 10 or 10:30 before they start bugging me for food. (God, I sound like a horrible mom.)

However, you know those kids who go to bed at 7 or 8 pm? Yeah. Those aren't my kids. They aren't all asleep until 10pm at the earliest (we're often talking about 11:30 for my youngest).

My sister and I were recently talking about this. She's strictly a nightowl; I sleep better if I go to bed by 10pm. We agreed that unfortunately the world is harder on nightowls. They have to go against their natural rhythms while the morning people don't. It stems from the schedules people had to keep before artificial lighting, I'm sure.

  6. Let's just get rid of the schools while we're at it. The kids can learn by watching TV and playing video games.

  7. Oh, I'm so there. Although I'm not sure my body could get used to sleeping more than 6 hours per night. Can you imagine?

  8. Count me in! I'm dead to the world until around 11am and I enjoy burning the midnight oil :-)

  9. Ha! You get to sleep in every day ! My son catches a bus at 6:45 -- his high school starts at 7:15. The poor kid. And poor me. That 6:15 alarm is just way too early.

  10. As the only night owl in a family of perky morning people, I would GLADLY move to your town.

    Yawn.
